The people and the story behind Foothills Compost.
Meet Casey & Marilee
We grew up loving the outdoors. Casey spent time with his dad helping in the yard and learning to care for the earth, and that connection to nature has stayed with him ever since. He has been known to collect acorns from parking lots and give them a second life by planting them wherever they might take root. He is always looking for ways to reduce waste and make a positive impact on the planet. Marilee also grew up surrounded by the outdoors, with a deep love for animals and a strong desire to protect our world.
Since becoming parents to our young sons, we’ve become even more intentional about living sustainably and responsibly. We want to show them what it means to care for the planet, reduce waste, and live in harmony with the natural world. We focus on reducing plastic waste, eating plant-based food when possible, and spending as much time outside as we can. We fell in love with the Appalachian Mountains and decided to move from Texas to North Carolina so we could be closer to the forests, streams, and trails we love.
Foothills Compost started in our own backyard, where we built compost piles and returned our kitchen scraps to the soil. Now we are proud to help households in our community do the same, turning everyday scraps into healthy soil and meaningful change for the Earth.
